Frequently Asked Questions
What are the sculptures made of?
They are sculpted from polymer clay, a term used to describe synthetic clays manufactured by several companies under their individual trade names. Each manufacturer's formula varies in durability, texture and color, but all are similar in one aspect: they are clays formulated to cure at temperatures far lower than typical kiln-baked clays. Because of their relatively low-firing temperatures, these clays have seen a broadening application in the arts. Their plastic-based composition yields a final product that is much less susceptible to breakage than ordinary clay.
How do they get their shape?
Each sculpture is formed by shaping and working the clay by the Artist's hand. No molds or forms are used in their creation. Dental tools and tiny sponges are used for the tiny detail work, such as their fingers and nails on the larger sculptures.
How do they get their color?
The color is achieved by combining different colors of clay and blending them by hand. The clay colors do not fade.
How are their faces applied?
Each face is hand painted by the Artist.
Are they breakable?
Yes they can be, but if handled carefully they will last indefinitely. They are much more durable than glass.
Where is the best place to put the hanging fairies?
They are best when hung at a level above the eye like from a ceiling fan or light fixture so that you can look up into their faces. One exception to this is the Guardian Angel who hangs nicely from the rear view mirror of your car to remind you to “Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.”
How do you ship them?
One or two fairies are shipped via U.S. Priority mail and larger orders are shipped via insured service.
What methods of payment do you accept?
You can pay with a credit card via Paypal or send a personal check, however if you pay by check, creation and shipping is postponed until the check clears. If you prefer I can send you an invoice via Papal. Custom orders require a 50% deposit.
Who pays the cost of shipping?
Buyer pays shipping at the rate of $8.50 for 1 or 2 fairies. Shipping charges for larger orders are subject to quantity and location. Contact artist for current insured shipping rates for large sculptures and larger orders.
Do you offer discounts for large volume orders?
Yes, my sculptures are sold wholesale to retail establishments throughout the United States and some tropical islands. Pricing discounts start at a dozen.
Does each sculpture come with a story card?
Yes, as a finishing touch I compose a short tale describing each sculpture created. There is a specific story created for the Fairy, Angel, MerFairy and Mermaids. You can read their cards in each section of this site.
